Homeschool Reference Books
In a traditional school setting, starting in elementary school and continuing
right through high school, children have access to a complete library of
reference books, encyclopedias, and childrens magazines. When you homeschool
your children, you’ll need to make sure that they have access to these
reference books and materials, whether that means you have a complete set
of encyclopedias in your home, or you make frequent trips to the library-
it is necessary that your children learn to use these books and childrens
magazines for research and education.
Reference books are extremely useful to have in your homeschool, since
not only can you refer to them yourself for details you might need when
teaching a subject you are not entirely familiar with, but children need
to learn how to use encyclopedias for research purposes- as it is a skill
they will use well into their adult lives. Consider subscribing to a
number of childrens magazines to supplement their studies. There are
numerous science magazines for kids, which can make learning about science
a little more entertaining.
In addition to having reference books, encyclopedias and childrens
magazines easily assessable to your children, you’ll want to teach
your children how to find the same information on the Internet. Rather
than subscribing to every magazine possible, check the magazine’s
website, sometimes you are able to read many of the articles online.
National Geographic, one of the most well known science magazines for
kids, offers many interesting articles on their website that you can
read and print for free.
