Creating a Homeschool Schedule
When you make the decision to homeschool your children, it is very important
to create a homeschool schedule to use for your homeschooling curriculum.
A homeschool schedule is typically different from the traditional school
system schedule, and that is fine. The one on one attention that children
receive with a homeschooling curriculum enables them to complete their lessons
faster than most children in a traditional school, not to mention there
is no need to travel the hallways at the end of each class period, stopping
at a locker to retrieve class materials and then walking to the next class.
A homeschool schedule should be designed to meet your family needs.
If your children have a better attention span first thing in the morning,
then you should plan to teach your homeschooling curriculum right after
breakfast. If your children seem to be slow to wake up, consider making
your lessons start later in the morning, or even after lunch. The flexibility
is just one of the advantages of homeschooling, but it’s important
that there is consistency and organization, while at the same time- allowing
for flexibility and changes when needed.
Most educators and parents who are currently homeschooling their children
will recommend creating a weekly homeschool schedule, on which you designate
a start time for each subject within your homeschooling curriculum, to
be sure you provide for enough time to cover each lesson you need to
cover. You’ll also want to include family errands and outings into
the schedule, as these activities are also part of effective teaching
strategies in a homeschool atmosphere.
