Distance Education: a solution for busy individuals as well as
homeschoolers
Distance education has been a popular way for adults to receive higher
education. Taking online courses offers working adults a way to attend college
classes, while working full time or raising a family. It is also a way for
students to earn a high school diploma at home, and can be used in a homeschooling
curriculum, or help adults who did not have the opportunity to earn their
high school diploma. Distance education provides busy people the opportunity
to take online courses and receive higher education that they normally would
not be able to schedule into their lives.
Community college’s, state schools and private universities are
all starting to offer distance education as a way for adults to obtain
higher education. Schools have gone from just offering a few online courses
to offering full degree programs over the Internet. Typically, an online
class has a virtual classroom in the form of a website, that students
log in to in order to read notes and communicate with teachers and classmates,
and get and send their assignments and class projects, and link to other
related resources for further study opportunities.
In more recent years, fully accredited colleges that are based entirely
online, have started to appear on the web, offering distance education
and online courses. These online colleges do not have a physical address,
and are only available through the Internet, but they offer classes taught
by professional teachers, and accept the same financial aid packages
that the traditional higher education facilities accept. Many of the
online colleges will allow you to earn your high school diploma at home
in addition to furthering your education and earning your college degree.
