A Christian Homeschool Curriculum:
Reasons for Homeschooling
Many Christian families are making the decision to homeschool their children,
in and effort to provide a Christian homeschool curriculum that focuses
on teaching values and character education along with traditional academics.
Sometimes, the decision to homeschool comes from the parents desire for
their children to not be exposed to undesirable influences, including violence,
drugs, and lack of morals within a public school setting. Sometimes, wanting
to create a Christian homeschool curriculum stems from not being able to
afford a private school, or the belief that our schools are providing lower
than acceptable education standards for children. The philosophy of Christian
education is to use God’s word in teaching values, character education,
and academics- so that we are not only educating our children; we are teaching
them to follow the word of God. It’s this philosophy of Christian
education that is lacking in public schools, and in many private schools-
that leads parents to homeschool their children.
Creating a Christian homeschool curriculum that follows your personal
philosophy of Christian education can be done with help from existing
resources, on the web and in your public library. While you don’t
need to create everything from scratch, you can include lessons for teaching
values you want to instill in your children, and lessons for character
education- to help your children develop traits and morals in line with
your religious beliefs.
