Child Safety Concerns Lead to Homeschooling
Many parents have made the decision to homeschool their children, or have
considered doing so because of concerns for child safety and child abduction.
In fact, child safety concerns top the list of reasons why parents are homeschooling
their children. Every day parents are hearing about an increasing number
of senseless, violent acts happening in our nation’s school systems,
including fatal shootings and beatings, combined with the knowledge that
child abduction range between 3,000 and 5,000 cases of non family abductions
every year, so it’s no wonder why parents fear sending their children
off to school. Homeschooling becomes a way to alleviate some of these very
valid concerns in today’s society.
While parents must remember you cannot shelter your children forever
to ensure their safety, taking child safety measures is a must for all
parents- whether they are homeschooling their children or sending them
off to school each morning. Make child abduction prevention lessons a
priority, as every 40 seconds a child is reported as missing in the United
States! There are quality programs and lessons that can be included in
your homeschooling curriculum, to teach your children to recognize danger
signals, and then how to take action steps to avoid potentially bad situations,
or even to escape danger.
In order to increase child safety, parents should consider purchasing
and using child identification kits, which are readily available online
or through your local crime enforcement authorities. These kids offer
creation and protection of fingerprinting, DNA samples, photographs,
dental records, and physical characteristic descriptions. Most also come
with brochures or software to help teach your children about child abduction
prevention, and general safety awareness through the use of games and
activities.
